Short answer: Air New Zealand's seasonal nonstop Hobart–Auckland flights run from 25 October 2026 to the end of April 2027, three a week for most of the season and four a week from 27 February to 20 March 2027. Travel Weekly reported up to 170 flights and more than 33,000 seats, 28% more than last season. Explera DMC New Zealand plans arrivals and touring for Tasmanian groups landing in Auckland.

This briefing is for travel agents and tour operators in Tasmania, and for agents elsewhere in Australia with clients who live in or around Hobart. A nonstop flight lets a Tasmanian group start a New Zealand programme without a connection through a mainland airport.

What is the 2026-27 Hobart–Auckland schedule?

  • The season. From 25 October 2026 to the end of April 2027, as reported by Travel Weekly on 18 September 2026.
  • Frequency. Three flights a week for most of the season, rising to four a week from 27 February to 20 March 2027.
  • Capacity. Up to 170 flights and more than 33,000 seats, which Travel Weekly gives as 36 more flights and 7,268 more seats than the previous season, a 28% rise.
  • Aircraft. Travel Today NZ reported on 27 October 2026 that the route is flown with Airbus A320-family aircraft.
  • Support. Travel Today reports that the Tasmanian Government has committed three years of support to the route through its Aviation Attraction Fund.

Who flies the route?

  • Mostly New Zealanders. Travel Today reports that about 65% of passengers heading to Hobart are New Zealanders, and the rest connect from Air New Zealand's other international routes.
  • Room for groups from Tasmania. The seats run in both directions, so the larger schedule also gives Tasmanian groups more choice of departure day.
  • New international facilities in Hobart. The first passengers of the season used Hobart Airport's new, larger international screening and border processing facility, including passport control, according to Travel Today.

What should agents plan for?

  • Fixed departure days. With three or four flights a week, the flight sets the arrival day. We build the programme around the confirmed flight, not the other way round.
  • March groups. The four-a-week window from 27 February to 20 March covers Crankworx Rotorua and WOMAD Aotearoa. Our Crankworx 2027 briefing covers the Rotorua event.
  • Time difference. New Zealand is two hours ahead of Hobart while both observe daylight saving. Our daylight saving briefing has the New Zealand dates.
  • Onward travel. From Auckland we plan coach touring north to the Bay of Islands or south to Rotorua and Waitomo, and domestic flights to Queenstown or Christchurch for the South Island.
