Mitre Peak above Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park
Answer

Where can clients stay in remote parts of New Zealand?

Inside or beside the national parks: Minaret Station by helicopter near Wānaka, Milford Sound Lodge in Fiordland, Awaroa Lodge in Abel Tasman, The Hermitage at Aoraki / Mount Cook and private lodges on the guided Milford Track.

Last updated: 15 October 2026

Why clients stay here

Why these stays sell.

A night in the park changes the day. Clients see Milford Sound, Aoraki / Mount Cook or the Abel Tasman coast in the early morning and evening, without the long return drive the same day.

Remote also means limited. These properties have few rooms, some have no road access and the walking lodges open only in season, so access, luggage and a weather fallback are part of the booking.

What to check before you quote.

  • Confirm how guests arrive: by road, on foot, by boat or by helicopter. Ask about luggage limits for helicopter and boat transfers.
  • Weather closes roads and grounds aircraft. Keep a spare day after any remote night that carries an onward connection.
  • Guided Great Walk lodges run only in their walking season and have limited places, so request early for the summer.
  • Some remote properties book out for the summer months well in advance. Ask for availability before you fix the rest of the route.
