Answer

What unique or eco stays can agents add to a New Zealand trip?

Off-grid glass cabins from PurePods, three dark-sky cabins at Skyscape near Twizel, tree houses at Hapuku Lodge in Kaikōura, Treetops’ native-forest estate near Rotorua, Woodlyn Park’s themed units at Waitomo and a Glenorchy eco lodge.

Why clients stay here

Why these stays sell.

One unusual night can become the story clients tell about the trip: a glass cabin under the stars, a tree house in native canopy, a motel unit inside an aircraft.

These are small, individual stays. Most suit couples and families on a self-drive or private tour rather than coach groups, and several are off-grid by design.

What to check before you quote.

  • Most of these stays have very few units. Use them for one or two nights on a self-drive or private tour, not for a coach group.
  • Off-grid cabins can be a walk from the car park. Confirm the access, what is supplied and what clients should bring.
  • Stargazing depends on cloud and moon. Plan a dark-sky night with a spare night nearby and set the client’s expectations.
  • Ask about breakfast and dinner arrangements; some stays include meals or a hamper and others are self-catered.
