Short answer: The Department of Conservation (DOC) has confirmed Conservation Week 2027 for 19–25 April, with the theme "Nature loves a team effort". It falls in the April school holidays and ends on ANZAC Day. Explera DMC New Zealand can help incentive and corporate groups plan a conservation activity during the week or at any other time of year.

DOC announced the dates on 10 September 2026 and said the focus is on group effort, whether at work, in the community, with whānau or with friends.

What is Conservation Week 2027?

  • Dates. 19–25 April 2027.
  • Theme. "Nature loves a team effort". DOC Director-General Pete Chrisp said, "It doesn't matter the size of the effort, nature loves it all."
  • Ideas from DOC. Chrisp gave planting a tree, setting a trap, cleaning up a beach and hunting deer as examples. DOC also lists fundraising, volunteering and inspiring others.
  • Finding an activity. DOC points people to its Nature Action Finder, which matches ways to help nature to interests, time and capacity.

What does it mean for a group?

  • A team theme that suits incentives. A short planting or beach clean-up gives a corporate group a shared activity with a clear purpose. We arrange it with the host organisation and confirm what the group can do on the day.
  • Busy dates. The week falls inside the school holidays (about 10 to 26 April 2027), and ANZAC Day, Sunday 25 April, is observed on Monday 26 April. Book rooms, coaches and activities early.
  • Plan for the season. April is autumn in New Zealand, so we plan for cooler mornings and a wet-weather option.
  • It is not only for one week. Groups can join conservation work at other times of year too, and we plan it around the host organisation's schedule.

How to brief clients

  • Explain the purpose. Tell clients what the activity supports and who runs it.
  • Set expectations. Planting and clean-ups are outdoor, physical work. Clients need closed shoes, layers and sun protection.
  • Link it to the Tiaki Promise. Explera DMC New Zealand is a Tiaki Promise signatory, and a give-back activity fits the same message of caring for New Zealand.
