Short answer: Rugby World Cup 2027 is played in Australia from 1 October to 13 November 2027, with 52 matches in seven host cities. No match is in New Zealand, but it is a short flight across the Tasman from the eastern host cities. Explera DMC New Zealand plans the New Zealand leg around the matches.
For agents selling to rugby clubs, supporters' groups and corporate hospitality buyers, the tournament is the reason to travel. New Zealand is the extension that makes a long-haul trip worth more.
What are the key tournament facts?
- Dates: 1 October to 13 November 2027.
- Teams and matches: 24 teams and 52 matches.
- Host cities: Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville.
- Opening match: Perth, on 1 October.
- Semi-finals and final: Stadium Australia in Sydney, with the semi-finals on 5 and 6 November and the final on 13 November.
Where does New Zealand play in the pool stage?
The official match schedule lists New Zealand against Chile in Perth on 2 October, against Australia in Sydney on 9 October and against Hong Kong China in Melbourne on 15 October. Knockout fixtures depend on results, so a group following one team cannot fix its later dates until the pool stage ends.
How does a New Zealand leg fit around the matches?
- Before the tournament. Late September is spring in New Zealand. Check the 2027 school holiday dates before fixing a pre-tournament programme.
- Between matches. The pool stage ends on 17 October and the round of 16 starts on 23 October. A short New Zealand stay can fit between them for a group with no match in that window.
- After the final. Mid-November is late spring, and a post-tournament programme can run as long as the group wants.
- Air and tickets. Request group air across the Tasman as soon as the group's match dates are known, and confirm how the group's match tickets are held before fixing the New Zealand dates.
